Kathryn Jones will shed light on why you can let go of the judgment, criticism and the alienation people experience from those around them when they fail to overcome addiction. Recovery is not based on willpower and increased ritual worship alone, as is commonly preached, there is an internal shift that is required to make it possible. Just as Allah says “Verily, Allah will not change the condition of a people as long as they do not change the condition within themselves” [al-Ra’d 13:11]. 

Harry Derbitsky will explain addiction and the possibility to recover completely from it by sharing his 4 stages of recovery from addiction. His extensive work in this area will shed light on why people struggle with addiction and how possible it is for anyone to recover from it. This session will be enlightening for those who are close to or work with someone who is struggling with addiction as well.

Professor Mohamad Abdalla will share from an Islamic perspective the importance of overcoming addiction, how our Islamic teachings help in addiction recovery and how the Prophet (peace be upon him) handled these challenges with compassion. In sha Allah.

Harry Derbitsky will dispel myths about addiction being a disease that has to be forever managed and whether trauma is the root cause of addiction and therefore trauma therapy is required to recover. He will talk about Stigma and Harm Reduction Approaches or Medically Aided Treatment (MAT). In this important session you will discover just how simple the solution really is!

Our second guest is a doctor who works on the frontline of addiction and shares his professional experience of what he has witnessed of patient recovery.

She has worked in this field for decades and her discovery of the "Three Principles" led to a profound shift in how she was able to help those suffering from addiction to a full recovery.
